Instrument Add-on Rating

PREREQUISITE: Must have completed the Private Pilot Add-on certificate in helicopters, and must have a current FAA Instrument rating in a powered aircraft.

DEFINITION: An Instrument Rotorcraft Rating provides you with the skills to fly in meteorological conditions in which standard VFR does not exist. When you have completed the course, you will have complied with the federal laws to allow you to fly a rotorcraft certified for instrument flight under IFR conditions.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
• Private or Commercial Rating
• A valid FAA Medical Certificate
• Ground School or Home Study
• Flight Training
• FAA Practical Test: Oral & Flight; FAA Knowledge Test

FLIGHT TRAINING REQUIRED FOR INSTRUMENT ADD-ON ROTORCRAFT COURSE:

  • 15 Hours of Flight Instruction in helicopters (dual); including:

  • One Instrument Cross-Country of at least 100 nm in length

  • 3 Hours in a helicopter in preparation for the Practical Test within 60 days of the test

Commercial Add-on Rating

PREREQUISITES: Must have completed the Private Pilot Add-On certification in helicopters. Instrument Add-on is optional. Must hold a current FAA Commercial certificate in a powered aircraft.
DEFINITION: An add-on is a category (Rotorcraft) and class (Helicopter) rating that is added to your current commercial pilot certificate. When you have completed the course, you will have complied with the federal laws to allow you to fly a rotorcraft for private or commercial use and pursue a career in helicopter aviation. Whatever hours a student flies to obtain a Private and/or Instrument Rating(s) can be applied toward the Commercial Rating.Eagle Aviation Academy, LLC instructor in a Schweizer 300c

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
• A valid FAA Medical Certificate
• Ground School or Home Study
• Flight Training
• FAA Practical Test: Oral & Flight

FLIGHT TRAINING REQUIRED FOR COMMERCIAL ADD-ON (61-129c):
150 Hours in Powered Aircraft, of which 50 Hours must be in Helicopters. AND
100 Hours of Pilot In Command Time in a Powered Aircraft, of which 35 Hours must be in Helicopters,
30 Hours of Flight instruction in helicopters, including:

• One Cross-Country of at least 2 Hours in Day VFR (straight-line distance greater than 50 nautical miles from original point of departure)
• One Cross-Country of at least 2 Hours in Night VFR (straight-line distance greater than 50 nautical miles from original point of departure)
• 3 Hours in a helicopter in preparation for the Practical (Oral/Flight) Test within 60 days before the test

10 Hours Solo in helicopters, including:

• One Cross-Country with 3 points of landing, one segment being straight line distance of at least 50nm from original point of departure
• 5 Hours Night VFR with 10 takeoffs and 10 landings (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern

CFI Add-On Rating for Schweizer 300c

PREREQUISITES: Must be at least 17 years old, be able to read, Eagle Aviation Academy provides Certified Flight Instructor training in a Schweizer 300cwrite, and speak English.
Must have completed Commercial Rotorcraft rating in helicopters and hold a CFI rating in a powered aircraft.
DEFINITION: A Certified Flight Instructor rating allows you to fly commercially and teach others to pilot rotorcraft.

• A valid FAA Medical Certificate
• Ground School or Home Study
• Flight Training
• FAA Practical Test: Oral & Flight

FLIGHT TRAINING REQUIRED FOR CFI ADD-ON COURSE:
Once you have completed the Commercial Rating, there are no set FAA minimum hours required to qualify for the additional CFI rating, however you must pass the FAA oral and practical test.
10-15 additional flight hours are necessary to gain proficiency on the advanced maneuvers of the CFI practical test.
